After a long restauration process and the reinforcement of walls and ceiling, now, after 30 years of closure, finally visitors from all around the world will be able  to visit the “Hall tenth" of the Baths of Diocletian in Rome.

Finally, now that the Baths of Diocletian are open again the Romans and tourists, the public can see the tomb of Platorinus.

Gaius Sulpicius Platorino was one of three coin minters in the city, in Augustu’s age. His tomb was discovered on the right bank of the river tiber in 1880. It contained decorated cinerary urns and two statues of Platorinus and his daughter.

The funerary objects have now been reunited and the tomb of Platorinus has been reconstructed. it is located in the Hall X, the museum’s renovated space at Diocletian’s Baths in Rome.

The tomb of Emperor Marcus Aurelius will also be open for exhibition in the hall.

In the museum in the coming months will be shown the grave of Macrino too. He was a proconsul for Marcus Aurelius and he was erroneously identified as the man who inspired the movie "Gladiator" by Ridley Scott.

In the X hall you’ll find exposed too tombs, sarcophagi and reliefs with portraits of the deceased. Besides the great tomb that reigns in the great hall, called the Platorini, there are also two chamber-tombs dug out of tufa stone, discovered in 1951 in Quirino Majorana that were part of a necropolis of Via Portuense between the end of the first and the third century AD. Among the other exhibits on display in the hall from a sarcophagus via Labicana with Dionysus and Ariadne, and two large marble sinks.

The central part of the room has been left intentionally left empty to allow his organization of concerts and conferences, so that it can become a place of cultural events.

In fact, from April 4 to May 2, on occasion of "The Night of Museums" every Saturday evening meeting is planned with music, theater, literature.

Now the baths of Diocletian come back at the city, and we wait for the other rooms to be opened.

The Baths of Diocletian are only a stone’s throw away from Hotel Des Artistes and Yes Hotel, your home away home in the Eternal City!

Moon_And_Saints__Vatican_Ro

From May 26th until June 25th if you are in Rome you have the chance to get a little ‘’lunatic’’. In fact the term ‘’lunatic’’ has a connexion with ‘’luna’’ which means “moon” in Italian. So the eighth edition of the festival of literature in Rome is called "Earth- Moon. An infinite resonance." The idea is to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the first man on the moon. Through history the Moon has inspired artists, poets, scientists and lovers…just think of Dante, Ariosto, Galileo, men who like many others have been moved by its creative energy. THE INFIORATA AT GENZANO DI ROMA

Our Blogger: Arianna

Do you like flowers? In particular do you enjoy compositions with flowers?

If your answer is “yes” then we’re about to introduce you to one of the best events for you and one that i absolutely suggest you not to miss: the Infiorata, a flower festival that takes place in Genzano’s village very year in June.

clip_image002

Unfortunately my last time at the Infiorata had been 2 years ago and I invite you to visit their website in order to discover more about the old representation

Last year we talked about the Infiorata as well, so today I’ll try to say something different.

The history of the infiorata is strictly tied with religion and goes back on time at the XII century, when during the religious processions people use to throw petals of flowers. As time passed this costume evolved and people started to create small flower carpets in front of the houses built along the streets of the procession. Every year, the small carpet became every year a bit larger and more complex and now we have that the street which goes from the centre of the village to the Duomo is now like a huge, coloured, fragrant, carpet every year.

Believe me, it’s an extraordinary view!genz [320x200]

A curiosity: a lot of famous people wrote something about the Infiorata. Some examples: In 1834,Hans Christian Andersen, wrote an article on “The Improvisator” ; Richard Voss did the same at “ Latium in the Italian and foreign writers”.

Why don’t take this beautiful chance to see something unique? Stay with us at Hotel des Artistes and take an afternoon to visit Genzano and The Infiorata.

Coming soon in Rome the presentation of the new movie based on Dan Brown’s Bestsellern: Angels and Demons.

Since the publication of the book  in Rome we have had a lot of people who we can certainly be called angels and demons’ tourists. In fact the plot develops between churches and squares and makes people feel the need to see those places in person.

Ecstasy

The protgonist, Robert Langdon is a university proferssor expert in religious symbolism. The character is portrayed  by Thom Hanks, who had the same role on the previous film, the Da Vinci Code .

But this time the story, even if concerns religio too, is totally different.

Different is the female protagonist as well: Vittoria Vetra interpreted by Ayelet Zurer is an adopted child from Leonardo Vetra, a CERN scientist. Like the book also the movie starts with the mysterious death of the scientist who was working to produce anti-matter. The particularity of the death is that someone has seared a strange symbol on Vetra’s chest…

This is when Robert Langdon gets involved in an adventure that will take him in only 24 hours from the United States to Switzerland and Italy and that will see him fighting, with some of Rome’s most famous monuments as a backdrop, against and ancient brotherhood that seems determined to annihilate the catholic church

Naturally the happy end it’s guaranteed, but we won’t tell you much about it!
