This summer you can take a particular occasion to visit the Coliseum under a very special light: the one of the moon. Until September 29^th 2009 it will be possible for everyone to visit the Coliseum during the night, a unique opportunity, since during the other months of the year the Coliseum is open only until sunset. This is an initiative of the superintendence of the archaeological site’s of Rome, and basically consists on night visits into the superb Forums area.

For those not in the know, the Etruscans were a civilization that flourished in Italy before the foundation of Rome with whose people they merged. They developed advanced techniques of sculpture that influenced roman art and left many objects and works of art that can be seen today in some specialized museums in Rome.

And is on this museums where you can get acquainted with the Etruscans in a different way. A group of comic artists were invited to stay for a week in different Etruscan locations and now their works are on display on the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia in Rome and in the museums of Tarquinia and Cerveteri. The exhibit has been organized in suggestive ways to underline the themes that had an impact on the artists, placing the drawings near some of the objects that inspired them.

The exhibition will be open until October 25 2009 and it’s a great opportunity to be introduced to the Etruscans and to the solid tradition of comics authors in Italy.

Sunday 19^th July, be at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome.

Why? Because you can’t miss the chance to see one of the most important living American singer-songwriters. One who came to be part in 2000 of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and inspired many other celebrities, like Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, David Crosby Sheryl Crow (as they declared in a tribute in 2006).

Even Paul McCartney and George Harrison worked with him in the recording of ‘‘James Taylor’’ from Apple Records, the company of the Beatles.

He had a sentimental relationship with Caroline King, who introduced him in the business. His version of ‘You’ve got a friend’’, composed by Caroline won a Grammy and became great hit. Then he fell in love and married another very famous singer, Carly Simon, in 1972.

He was grown in Chapel Hill (North Carolina) he played Cello as a child. His mother was a soprano, and maybe she expected a different career for his son. Anyway, James turned to guitar and developed a folk rock style with soft and sweet sounds as a background for a powerful message.

While living in New York, Taylor became an heroin addict.The song "Jump Up Behind Me" refers to that experience. This song is a tribute to his father Isaac. After a desperate phone call from his son, Isaac Taylor helped James to come back home, in Chapel Hill.

James Taylor has always been very active in defending the environment and politically progressive positions, in 2004 Taylor joined the tour "Vote for Change", taking a series of concerts in the U.S. in favor of John Kerry during the presidential elections of 2004 .

It is not easy to sum up his life and experience. Consider also that he even appeared in the episode "Deep Space Homer" of the Simpson’s tv show singing "Fire and Rain" and his hit “You’ve got a friend.”
