From February 7 to May 6 2012 the Guggenheim collection, an exhibition of some sixty iconic pieces from the Solomon R. Guggenheim foundation’s permanent collection will be displayed here in Rome in the Palazzo Delle Esposizioni.
This exhibition will display some of the foundation’s impressive collection of abstract, expressionism, pop-art, minimalism, post-minimalism, conceptual art and photo-realism.
In the period represented by these pieces in this exhibition the Guggenheim grew from a small showcase, focused on European abstract art to becoming a global institution for contemporary art. Through forward-thinking exhibitions and a bold collecting practice, the Guggenheim has not only important contemporary works for posterity but has been an active force in some of the most innovative and controversial movements in the second half of the 20th century.
