This exhibition will display some of the foundation’s impressive collection of abstract, expressionism, pop-art, minimalism, post-minimalism, conceptual art and photo-realism.

In the period represented by these pieces in this exhibition the Guggenheim grew from a small showcase, focused on European abstract art to becoming a global institution for contemporary art. Through forward-thinking exhibitions and a bold collecting practice, the Guggenheim has not only important contemporary works for posterity but has been an active force in some of the most innovative and controversial movements in the second half of the 20^th century.

Locals often come here for a walk as the park provides a welcome escape from the hectic streets of the city. There are also some activities for children to enjoy here like an authentic puppet theatre.

Many tourists head here just to see the magnificently beautiful view of Rome from the top of the hill, however there are other interesting things atop this hill…..

The largest monument on the janiculum is the Garibaldi monument, an enormous equestrian statue of Giuseppe Garibaldi, honouring the italian patriot’s heroics on this hill in 1849.

Another monument can be found here, a formal arched memorial with the inscription ‘Roma o Morte’ (Rome or Death), honouring the other Italian patriots who died in the Italian independence wars between 1848 and 1870.

And one more magnificent thing to see is the Fontana dell’Acqua Paola, a monumental baroque fountain built in the early 17^th century by pope Paul V.the fountain was built here to celebrate the reopening of an old roman acqeduct, originally created in 109 AD by emperor Trajan. The fountain was named after the pope.

This is one of the most beautiful and interesting places to visit in the eternal city and it is worth your time to take a look. To reach the Janiculum Hill from the center of the city, Hope you enjoy.

Here are preserved the mortal remains of nearly 4000 people. Given the narrowness of the place, the Capuchin brothers decided to make a virtue of necessity. In mid-1700 decided to decorate the walls with the bones of the dead buried there. The environment is, therefore, entirely covered with skulls, tibias, femurs, docks, vertebrae, scapula, phalanges, etc..

Capuchin monks were buried here until 1870. The burial ground for the Mass in the Chapel was reserved for the burial of the poor.

The rooms are 6, all of these decorative motifs made with the bones joined by a narrow corridor: Crypt of the Resurrection, Chapel of the Mass, the crypt of skulls, the crypt of the basins, the femurs and tibias of the crypt, the crypt of the three skeletons

The compositions made with the various bones of the body form rosettes, pilasters, stars, flowers, garlands and chandeliers and even a clock. There are also full of skeletons, such as the Princess Barberini with the right hand holding a sickle (the symbol of death) and the left holds a scale (symbol of divine justice that comes to souls after the death of the body)

Why use Azaleas to celebrate spring? The answer, besides the fact that azaleas are beautiful and are in full flowering during April, is hard to guess. For some, the idea might be somehow connected to the legend of the Roman goddess Proserpine who escaped from her husband Pluto to go back to her mother Ceres, but due to a spell cast on her by her husband she had to spend six months on earth and the other six months in the underworld with him. According to the legend Proserpine, by going back to earth, gave start to spring and summer, while during the six months that she had to spend in the afterlife autumn and winter arrived on earth.

The dates can slightly vary in operation of the flowering of the azaleas, but the office of the tourism will provide all the necessary information.

While people are visiting Rome is not unusual that they ask for a shopping centre where to buy clothes and souvenirs. Unfortunately (or fortunately) inside the city we don’t have such big mall; they are located quite far and sometimes it’s not so simple to reach those areas using the public transportation.

But in the city there it’s possible to visit free open markets where you’ll find many bargains- maybe not brand clothing but there, besides getting a good price you’ll get as well a glimpse into the most picturesque romanity.

The most famous street market one is Porta Portese but it’s open only on Sundays. During week days your best option is Via Sannio, where you’ll find cheap clothes, past seasons stock, military articles, camping, hunting and fishing stuff.

This market is actually open every day from 7:00 am to 2:00 pm and it’s closed on Sunday.Most of the stands from Via Sannio in fact moved on Sunday to the Porta Portese market.

Some curiosities: generally in Sannio street you can buy the “ brand clothes” with substantial discounts in comparison with the usual prices but be careful: in fact most of the things you see there are actually good imitations of famous designer’s ideas.

But not everything is counterfeit, on Via Sannio you’ll find too many second-hand things: a great chance to get a vintage piece of wardrobe that will add a unique touch to your look.

What might be special for foreign tourists is the atmosphere of this tangle of stands: colours, voices and characters who live together inside this small world.

Some colourful characters you can meet at Via Sannio are: the tree of junk, Sylvan the dirty, Gino the musician, Joao the Philippin, Mustafa the optician, Ric and Jan the leather-goods dealers, Mara the seller of sleepers, Fidel the revolutionary, Lella the ragwoman, Tarcisio the infamous, Jimmy the graphic artist, Ahmed and Anal the Libyans, the crazy hatter, Max the business man.
